Save your Character.AI chats before it is too late
Character.AI is in bankruptcy and may shut down if no buyer keeps it running. Here is how to keep your chats and characters, starting today.
The sale is due to close by the end of November, and the latest date in the court papers is December 17. Because an export takes three to four weeks, a request made after about November 19 may not arrive in time.
Request your export today
On the web: open your Profile, then Profile Settings, Account, Manage Account & Data, and choose Export Data. In the app: open your Profile, tap the settings icon, then Legal & Privacy, and choose Export Data.
Download it within seven days of the email
Character.AI says the export takes three to four weeks and emails you a link that expires after seven days. Download the file as soon as it arrives. Do not delete your account before then: deleting first loses your chats.
Keep the file somewhere safe
Save the downloaded file to your computer or cloud storage. Castmanor will import it when it opens.
Save the chats you care about most, by hand
- Open the chat, select the conversation and copy it into a document. Plain text is fine.
- Or take screenshots of the parts you want to keep. Castmanor will read screenshots too.
- Write down the character's name and its creator's name, so the right character can be found later.
If you made characters
Copy each character's name, greeting, description and definition into a document now. Creators can claim their characters on Castmanor and bring them over with their own definitions.
