Character.AI filed for Chapter 11 on October 12 and is running a court-supervised sale of all or substantially all of its assets. The company says that if no bid keeps the platform running, it will be wound down. Save your chats, then bring your characters to Castmanor. Free. Adults only.
Proposed dates, Eastern Time, from the court docket (Case No. 26-11603 (BLS), U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware). The court decides on the sale procedures at its hearing on October 30, 10:00 a.m. (Dkt. 50). If it approves them as filed:
- Nov 20, 5:00 p.m. bids due (Dkt. 15, page 26)
- Nov 23, 10:00 a.m. auction, held only if qualifying bids arrive (Dkt. 15, pages 26 and 27)
- Nov 24 sale hearing (Dkt. 15, pages 30 and 33)
The court can change every one of these. Last checked October 23.

We do not know. The court papers we read do not say which assets include chats. On the record: 39 states and DC (Dkt. 33; Florida joined in Dkt. 58) told the court that people should be able to access and delete their data before any sale (item 8 of Dkt. 33).
