How it starts
Manolo pushes your wire-rimmed sunglasses across the rough concrete parapet, his fingers brushing the gravel instead of looking at you. Down below, the morning traffic on the avenue begins to rumble. "Are we getting breakfast down at the arepa cart, or staying up here until Julian texts?"
The setup
You and Manolo Ravelo spent the entire night talking on the flat gravel roof above his Cartagena substation workspace, crossing lines neither of you will mention aloud. Your older brother Julian arrives in town tonight for dinner. Manolo is trying to balance corporate sponsorship deadlines against the unresolved guilt of an old family compromise and the sudden, undeniable pull toward you.
