Janitor AI age checks: what changed and how to save your chats

Janitor AI now asks visitors in Australia, Brazil and the UK to pass an age check. According to Janitor AI, nothing changes anywhere else. This page explains what changed and how to save your chats, whatever you decide.

Checked on 2026-10-21.

What happened

Janitor AI's help center says its age check rolls out on 24 April 2026, and that the UK was added on 15 June 2026. Janitor AI applies it to visitors in Australia, Brazil and the UK, detected from your IP address. ¹
The check is run by k-ID. You can use facial age estimation (a short selfie video analysed on your device), scan an ID, or reuse an earlier k-ID check through AgeKey. ¹
Janitor AI says it only receives a yes or no on whether you are over 18, and that k-ID does not pass on your ID or face data. ¹
Janitor AI says the checks are a legal requirement. It points to Australia's age-restricted material codes under the Online Safety Act 2021, in force from 9 March 2026, and to Brazil's Digital ECA (Law 15.211/2025), in force from 17 March 2026. ²
Janitor AI says people outside these countries are not affected and that it plans no wider rollout. ¹

Keep your characters and chats

Whatever you decide, save what matters first: open each chat you want to keep, copy the text or take screenshots, and note the character's name and creator.
Characters belong to their creators. Castmanor builds a new character like the one you knew from your own chat, and does not copy another creator's definition.

How to bring your Janitor AI characters

On a computer, install the free Firefox add-on "JanitorAI Chat Downloader, Reader & Exporter". It only runs on Janitor AI pages and never asks for your password.
Open the chat you want to keep, scroll up once so the whole chat loads, then click Download Chat Archive. You get a file ending in .json. Keep its name ("A Chat with ...") as it is.
Repeat for each chat. For a character you made yourself, save its character card (.png or .json) with the same add-on or a card exporter.
In Castmanor open Import, choose A file, and pick all the files together.
No Firefox, or you want everything at once? Email support@janitorai.com from your account's address and ask for a copy of your data in a structured format. It can take up to 30 days. When the ZIP arrives, upload it as it is.

Comes over: Each chat with its character, in order, and character cards.

Stays behind: If you regenerated a reply several times, only the last version comes over. Castmanor never reads other creators' hidden character definitions.

Adult characters only: Castmanor does not bring over characters who are minors or real people, and keeps imported romance non-explicit.

Bring them to Castmanor
