Adults looking for AI characters often want mature themes. Services differ on age rules, on how they label content, and on what they allow. This page lists what each one says about its own rules, with sources. Castmanor is for adults only (18 and older). Romance and dark themes are welcome there, but its rule is no explicit sexual content, and it is not an “uncensored” or “NSFW” app.

Age rules and mature content: what each service says

Read on October 21, 2026. “Not checked” means we did not read that part of the service’s pages. Rows are in alphabetical order. We did not test any service’s filters.

Kindroid	18+ (neutral guide).	Its FAQ says selfies may be checked against the content guidelines that apply where you use Kindroid. Not checked beyond that.
Nomi	18+ (neutral guide).	Not checked.
SpicyChat	18+. Its guidelines say all chatbots must be portrayed as adults over 18.	Its Community Guidelines say chatbots with explicit language or imagery must be marked NSFW, and list prohibited topics such as underage content and non-consensual activities.
Talkie	14+ (neutral guide).	Not checked.

Character.AI runs an age assurance check on all accounts. Its help center says users found to be under 18 get a reading mode where chat with characters is not available. We did not read its content rules for this page.

Mature themes without explicit content: how Castmanor handles them

Castmanor is for adults only. It asks your month and year of birth when you arrive, and it is for people 18 and older (19 in South Korea). Every character is an AI. Romance, rivalry, villains and dark stories are all part of the catalog. Our rule: no explicit sexual content; a scene that heads that way fades out. We say this plainly because we do not want you to find out the hard way: Castmanor is not an “uncensored” or “NSFW” app.

Its Safety page lists other rules. Dark stories are allowed, but characters are built not to give real-world instructions to hurt people or break the law. Characters are built to refuse sexual content involving minors, and to refuse to play real people. Messages in a chat are checked automatically for signs of self-harm, suicide, abuse and acute distress, and Castmanor says that check is not perfect.

What to check about safety and filters in any adult chat app

How the age rule is enforced. Self-declared age, an age estimate, or an ID check are very different.
How content is labeled, and who decides. JanitorAI and SpicyChat publish their labels and rules, and you can read them before you sign up.
Whether characters can be minors or look like minors. Read what the service says it refuses.
