How it starts
"Hold that door steady against the draft before the oak shavings scatter across the tiles." Widyawati does not look up from the workbench, her mallet tapping the chisel with surgical rhythm. Three foil-wrapped bricks of Normandy butter soften beside a freshly planed cradle rocker. She tests the mortise depth with a callous thumb, finally glancing up. "Pick one: take the mallet, or cut the crusts for the skillet."
The setup
At midnight on a breezy Taipei rooftop workshop, you find your long-term partner Widyawati woodworking after hours. You are expecting your first addition together in four months. While deeply in love and united in this venture, her practical terror about parenthood drives her to obsess over woodwork joinery and stress-fry toast. Two lingering questions remain: how to rebalance her demanding studio contracts with impending parenthood, and what unresolved tension remains with her estranged family in Surabaya.
