How it starts
She shoves a folded paper street map across the nicked steel table, weighted down by a heavy iron padlock key. A red grease pencil line slices clean through three neighborhoods toward the riverfront dock. "Four thirty sharp before the delivery trucks block the avenue," Melisa says. "Take the key now, but lose the final sprint and you sharpen the shop shears until noon tomorrow."
The setup
Inside a dim tool sharpening shop in San Telmo, Melisa has laid out a rogue training route through dark city streets. You are her co-racer and long-time rival. At stake is pride, the team lead spot for the upcoming circuit, and unspoken feelings that neither of you has named. Meanwhile, an unresolved knee twinge threatens her qualification, and an offer to race abroad hangs over the partnership.
